About 5 Days Maasai Mara, Lake Nakuru & Lake Naivasha Safari – Kenya's Ultimate Rift Valley Journey

Three iconic destinations. Five extraordinary days. One safari that covers the very best of Kenya.

If you’re looking for a single itinerary that captures the full breadth and beauty of Kenya’s wildlife and landscapes, this is it. Over five carefully paced days, you’ll journey through three of Kenya’s most celebrated destinations — each utterly distinct, each breathtaking in its own right, and each offering wildlife encounters and scenery that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

Begin in the legendary Maasai Mara National Reserve, where lions with magnificent black manes patrol the golden savannah and the world’s greatest wildlife migration plays out across the plains. Travel north to the Lake Nakuru National Park, a jewel of the Great Rift Valley famed for its remarkable rhino sanctuary and spectacular birdlife. Finally, unwind beside the serene shores of Lake Naivasha — a stunning freshwater lake where hippos yawn at dusk and giraffes roam freely across Crescent Island.

This is Kenya at its most diverse, its most dramatic, and its most unforgettable.

    Nairobi ( Departure: 8:00 am - 8:30am )

Your 5-day adventure begins with a morning pickup from your Nairobi hotel or the airport, and the excitement starts almost immediately. As you head southwest out of the city, the urban landscape quickly dissolves into open countryside — and before long, you'll make your first stop at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint, one of Kenya's most dramatic overlooks.

Standing at the escarpment's edge, the sheer scale of the Rift Valley stretches before you — ancient, vast, and humbling. It's a moment that puts everything into perspective, and the perfect overture to the wild days that follow.

Continuing through Narok, the largest Maasai town in Kenya, you'll arrive at the Maasai Mara in time for lunch at the iconic Maasai Mara Sopa Lodge — beautifully positioned within the ecosystem with uninterrupted views of the surrounding savannah.

After a short rest, your first afternoon game drive awaits. The Mara needs no warm-up period — wildlife encounters begin from the moment you pass through the reserve gates. Lions are frequently spotted in the late afternoon, often resting near riverbanks or stalking through the tall grass as the temperature drops. Elephants, buffalo, and giraffe move across the plains in the golden light, while the first stars begin to appear over the darkening sky.

Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

🕐 Approximate driving time: 5–6 hours 🍽️ Meals included: Lunch, Dinner 🏨 Accommodation: Maasai Mara Sopa Lodge (4-Star)

Rise early — the Mara rewards those who do. Today is your full immersion into one of Africa's most extraordinary wildlife sanctuaries, and every hour spent inside the reserve brings new discoveries.

After breakfast, you'll set out with packed picnic lunches for a full-day game drive that takes you deep into the heart of the reserve. The Maasai Mara is home to all of the Big Five — and with some of Africa's highest densities of lion, leopard, and elephant, your chances of extraordinary sightings are exceptional. Keep your eyes peeled for the Mara's celebrated black-maned lions, among the most impressive specimens on the continent.

Between July and October, the plains come alive with the thundering hooves and dramatic river crossings of the Great Wildebeest Migration — over 1.5 million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebra and gazelle making their ancient circular journey between Tanzania's Serengeti and the Maasai Mara. Witnessing a Mara River crossing, with massive Nile crocodiles surging from the water, is one of the most viscerally thrilling experiences in all of nature.

For those seeking an even more extraordinary perspective, today is the ideal day to add the optional hot air balloon safari — drifting silently above the waking savannah at sunrise, watching the wildlife below with Kilimanjaro on the distant horizon, before landing for a champagne bush breakfast. Ask us to arrange this in advance.

Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

🕐 Full day in the reserve 🍽️ Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner 🏨 Accommodation: Maasai Mara Sopa Lodge (4-Star)

This morning begins with an optional visit to a local Maasai village — a meaningful opportunity to step inside one of Kenya's most iconic cultures, witness traditional dances, learn about the Maasai's pastoral way of life, and support the local community directly.

After breakfast and check-out, your journey continues north towards Lake Nakuru National Park — a place that looks, at times, almost too beautiful to be real. Arrive in time for lunch at the elegant Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge, perched above the park with sweeping views across the Rift Valley.

The afternoon offers a chance to settle in, relax, and prepare for tomorrow's early morning game drive. But even from the lodge, the sights and sounds of the park make it clear this is a very special place — the distant pink shimmer of flamingos on the lake, the call of fish eagles echoing across the water, and the occasional glimpse of a giraffe moving through the yellow fever trees.

Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

🕐 Approximate driving time: 3–4 hours 🍽️ Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner 🏨 Accommodation: Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge (4-Star)

The morning begins with an early game drive through Lake Nakuru National Park — and what a morning it is. Lake Nakuru is one of Kenya's most rewarding wildlife destinations, offering a remarkable concentration of species in a compact and accessible landscape.

The park is home to one of Kenya's most important rhino sanctuaries, sheltering both black and white rhinos in a protected environment — making this one of the best places on the continent to observe these ancient, endangered giants at close range. Beyond rhinos, the park supports healthy populations of lion, leopard, Rothschild's giraffe, waterbuck, impala, and cape buffalo.

And then there's the lake itself. Depending on water levels and season, thousands of lesser and greater flamingos gather along its alkaline shores in one of nature's most extraordinary colour displays — a vast, shifting, pink-tinged spectacle that has made Lake Nakuru one of the most photographed wildlife scenes in Africa. Pelicans, African spoonbills, herons, and dozens of other waterbird species complete the picture.

After the morning game drive, check out and travel to the nearby Lake Naivasha — a beautiful freshwater lake just northwest of Nairobi, surrounded by fever trees and papyrus reeds. Arrive in time for lunch at the Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort, beautifully set on the lakeshore.

The afternoon brings one of the highlights of the entire safari — a boat safari on Lake Naivasha, gliding quietly across the water past yawning hippos, cormorants, kingfishers, and African fish eagles. From the boat, you'll make your way to Crescent Island for a truly unique experience: a guided walking safari among free-roaming wildlife — giraffe, buffalo, zebra, gazelle, topi, impala, and waterbuck — with no fences and no vehicles, just you walking among Africa's animals as nature intended.

Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

🕐 Approximate driving time: 1.5 hours (Nakuru to Naivasha) 🍽️ Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner 🏨 Accommodation: Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort (4-Star)

    Final Day

After a final breakfast overlooking the lake, check out and prepare for the return journey to Nairobi. But before you head back to the city, consider one last optional adventure — a visit to Hell's Gate National Park, one of Kenya's most unique and dramatic landscapes.

Named for the intense geothermal activity that shaped its towering cliffs and steaming gorges, Hell's Gate offers something rare in East Africa: the chance to explore an African park entirely on foot or by bicycle, cycling through herds of zebra and giraffe with the dramatic Fischer's Tower rock formation rising in the background. It's an experience unlike any other in the country, and a fitting final chapter to a truly extraordinary safari.

Lunch is enjoyed en route to Nairobi. Upon arrival in the city, your driver-guide will transfer you to your hotel or directly to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward flight — bringing five magnificent days to a close.

🕐 Approximate driving time: 1.5–2 hours (Naivasha to Nairobi) 🍽️ Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch
