Your safari begins early in the morning as you depart Nairobi with your experienced guide, heading southwest towards the Great Rift Valley. The drive itself is a spectacle — as you descend to the valley floor, you'll make a stop at one of Kenya's most photographed viewpoints, where the vast escarpment unfolds before you in all its geological grandeur.
Continuing through the rolling plains of the Rift Valley, you'll pass through Narok, the largest Maasai town in Kenya and a vibrant gateway to the Mara. Lunch is enjoyed here (or at the lodge depending on your departure time from Nairobi) before you press on into the reserve.
By afternoon, you'll arrive at your lodge and check in — but there's no resting just yet. An afternoon game drive awaits, your very first glimpse into one of the most wildlife-rich ecosystems on the planet. As the sun dips low and the golden hour settles over the savannah, you'll understand why the Maasai Mara is in a league of its own.
Return to the lodge for dinner and a well-deserved overnight rest.
🕐 Approximate driving time: 6 hours 🍽️ Meals included: Lunch, Dinner 🏨 Accommodation: Sopa Lodge or similar
Rise before dawn — the Mara rewards early risers. Today is entirely yours to spend inside Kenya's most beloved game sanctuary, and it promises to be a day you'll talk about for years.
Armed with packed picnic lunches, you and your guide will venture deep into the reserve for a full-day game drive, covering the vast terrain in search of the legendary Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino. Beyond the Big Five, the Mara teems with cheetah, zebra, hippo, crocodile, giraffe, and over 500 species of birds, making every turn of the track a potential discovery.
Your guide's expert knowledge of animal behavior and the reserve's terrain gives you the best possible chance of witnessing truly extraordinary wildlife moments — a lion pride on a hunt, a leopard draped lazily over an acacia branch, or a breeding herd of elephants crossing the golden plains.
In the afternoon, you have the optional opportunity to visit a traditional Maasai village (at an additional cost), where you'll be welcomed by community members, learn about their ancient customs, and gain a deeper appreciation for the culture that has coexisted with this wilderness for centuries.
Return to the lodge as the sun sets for dinner, storytelling around the campfire, and overnight.
🕐 Full day in the reserve 🍽️ Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner 🏨 Accommodation: Sopa Lodge or similar
No one leaves the Mara without one final early morning game drive — and this morning is no exception. As the mist lifts off the savannah and the animals stir with the rising sun, you'll head out for a last, lingering look at this extraordinary landscape.
After breakfast and check-out, you'll begin the scenic drive back to Nairobi, arriving at approximately 5:00 PM. Your driver-guide will drop you at your hotel or any preferred location within the city, bringing your Mara adventure to a close — though the memories will stay with you far longer.
